“There is neither man or woman in this Church who is not on a mission. That mission will last as long as they live, and it is to do good, to promote righteousness, to teach the principles of truth, and to prevail upon themselves and everybody around them to live those principles that they may obtain eternal life.”

Did you feel that?

SPECIAL REPORT: Some of you may have heard reports that Okinawa experienced a 5.3 earthquake on the evening of January 15. It was my first earthquake. Coming as it did, just days after the big quake in Haiti, it made me more than a little nervous. Fortunately, there was no damage. Then, at 5:30 this past Friday, we were rattled out of bed by another earthquake ~ this one 7.0 magnitude occurring 50 miles off our coast. Again, there was no reported damage but pictures on our walls were tilted and items fell from shelves. I'll be the first to admit I found the experience unnerving.

Today there was an island-wide tsunami alert triggered by the deadly quake in Chile. Water levers were expected to rise as much as 2 meters. Anyone within 30 feet of sea level was evacuated to higher ground. That did not affect us, however we were involved in notifying our missionaries to remain on high ground for a few hours. We also drove to high ground just as a precaution. As far as I know, no significant rise in the sea level ever materialized. The warning expired without incident. We are grateful for the prayers and concern shown by family and friends. God bless us, every one!

  1. It was so fun to read of your experiences in Okinawa. Elder Peterson and I are still in Provo, but hoping for resolution about our service soon. We feel good and are anxious to return, so we'll have to see what develops in the next couple of weeks. We'll keep you posted. Keep up the good work.
